How was Shoes of Imagination Conceived?
After working in a corporate environment for many years, feeling locked in a gray cubicle with no creative outlet other than the corporate mindset (keep in mind that mindset pays my bills). I always loved art, vibrant colors and shoes. I came up with the idea to paint shoes from an associate of mine. We were sitting around having cocktails and painting boxes. After seeing what I was able to produce in a matter of an hour, she was floored. Raving about how creative, colorful and perfect the box was. I am a very humble person and immediately thought she was being kind. However, she convinced me that I should paint and design holiday gift boxes. It was amazing, every gift box I made, I sold! It was like a concept of endless possibility on ways to show my art. My creativity has always been inspired by finding a solution to a problem. My major problem was I love shoes...more importantly, I had all this creative energy and what better way to disperse it then on shoes!
After purchasing a very expensive pair of "custom designed shoes " from a major high-end retailer I was thrilled to be showing off my one of a kind shoes. My joy soon turned to bitterness when I found the "custom designed art work peeled off! What was even worse was that I saw my shoes all over the Valley!
I thought I would just paint a pair myself - I had little to lose. I loved the concept of art on my feet, but hated spending the money on shoes that didn't even last a season! I was delivering my holiday boxes to my clients and took one of my shoes out of purse when I turned to put it back, a co-worker had her wallet out and was giving me money for "my shoes". That co-worker is still a client today.
The first time I wore them out in public I was not prepared for the reaction I got. I loved my own designs and clogs I always thought they were quite cool, but never even gave a thought to anyone else liking such burst of color on their feet. Everybody loved them! I have never had so many comments from strangers in my life!
So naturally my shoes have evolved. One of those "friends who told two friends, who told two friends and so on kind of things. I started selling them on ebay and Craigslist after selling them locally and found an incredible number of people were
interested in having their own pair . They are so addictive!
